7 steps to write Your College Paper easily - Qrius

As a paper writer, I spend most of my time writing papers for high school and college students. As these papers are often written under tight deadlines, I have picked up some great tips along the way that can help you get started on your paper early or finish it on time when you’re feeling stuck in your writing. Here are seven great tips to get you started with your college paper today.

1) Stick to the Facts

Stick to the facts and don’t get too personal when writing your paper. When you’re editing, it’s easy to slip into first-person narrative mode – but that is unnecessary for an academic paper. Stick to the facts, keep sentences short, and use simple language. Don’t be overly critical or argumentative. The goal of an academic essay is not to prove you are right or wrong; instead, you are expected to critically analyze ideas or texts in order to make reasoned judgments about them. If you disagree with something, then state so but offer up evidence to back up your claims.

2) Evaluate Relevance

Evaluate the relevance of your paper. What are you trying to prove? How will this information benefit the reader? Why should they care? And how is what you’re saying new or different than anything else on the topic? If it’s not, then do some more research and try again. Your paper should answer these questions and provide the evidence to support it. Don’t assume that someone will find it interesting just because you found it interesting when researching. Think about the needs of an audience other than yourself before writing and during revision.

3) Know What’s Expected of You

The first and most important thing to know before you start writing your college paper is what type of paper it will be. The type of assignment will determine how long you should make the paper, how detailed your discussion should be, and what kind of sources are needed. Know What’s Expected of You: You may also need to include a hypothesis or the topic for an essay if one has not been provided. Once you have established the expectations of your paper, create an outline that covers all parts of your project.

4) Choose a Topic That Connects with the Course Goals

Pick a topic or topics that are important to the course goals. It will be difficult to come up with a good paper if you’re trying to write about something that is not related to the course goals. For example, if your English class is looking at Jane Austen’s use of irony, it would be hard to write an essay on how hospitals should be run. Remember, this isn’t the time for an off-topic tangent; stay focused and make sure your topic connects with what the class is learning.

5) Get Organized and Stay Organized

Figure out what you are going to write your paper on. This may sound like an elementary step, but it is the most important. Don’t just pick something because it sounds interesting. Know what you want to explore or argue before you start writing because this will help guide your paper and focus your ideas. Do some background reading on the topic so that you have a good grasp of the subject matter.

6) Format Matters

Format matters. One of the first steps in writing your paper is to choose the format and adhere to it throughout. Choose one of the following: APA, MLA, or Chicago style. Make sure you are consistent with the formatting on all citations, quotes, and references. In-text citations should be placed within parentheses, while footnotes and endnotes should be designated as such and formatted accordingly. Use sentence structure that best matches the guidelines of the chosen style.

7) Have Others Review Your Draft Before Submitting

Before you submit your paper to your professor, have someone else go over it and give feedback. This way, you can be confident that the paper is written well and will be easy to read. The person reading your paper should also be able to help identify any missing pieces of information or areas where more work needs to be done. They should also have good grammar skills because they might notice errors in sentence structure that you may not see.
